“Then I told them of the hand of my God which was good upon me; …And they said, let us rise up and build. So they strengthened their hands for this good work.”
--Nehemiah 2:18
In Roswell, Georgia in the year 1866, the War Between the States was a memory, albeit a fresh one. Commerce was progressing. The people of Roswell were beginning to re-establish, in earnest, the foundation of today’s historic city.
At the same time in New England another quiet reconstruction was going on. Mary Baker Eddy had discovered that there were healing principles in primitive Christianity, which anyone could use, just as Jesus did on the hills of Galilee. She was writing about them and would soon establish the Church of Christ, Scientist.
Since that time both Roswell and the Christian Science Movement have prospered. In 1979, a small group of individuals dedicated to the teachings of Christian Science began to hold services in the Roswell area. This group soon became Christian Science Society, Roswell, Georgia. Becoming a society is the first step toward becoming a branch church of The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts.
In 1989, we fulfilled the requirements to become a full-fledged branch of The Mother Church and moved into our new edifice here on Houze Road.
First Church of Christ, Scientist, Roswell is built in the hearts and minds of its members.
